Are you up for a co-op bundle to join?
Itch.io Roaring Summer Bundle - itch.io

Just bought this and it is awesome! Question: does this follow a color palette? If so, can you share it?

Huge fan of this, it's exactly what I needed to jumpstart my project (I have a hard time visualizing things) and they work SO great in Trenchbroom.  When my financial situation gets better, I'll be chipping in extra 'cause I feel like I'm getting way more than $5 worth.

Love the textures, do you have plans to do any maybe medieval/modern/dungeon/cave/etc themed? And any plans for more vertical options for tiles as well?

(+4)

I posted about it a year or so ago when it was still a WIP, but I finally finished and released a Doom II level using the textures. https://pbuyle.itch.io/dreary-hauler

OMG, this is amazing! It’s like exactly the kind of thing I had in mind when I very first started drawing textures last year.

I really love how you used both the tech lab textures and the toxic lab textures together, to give each area a different feel. I’m going to try out the level as soon as I get chance.

I’d love to hear your feedback on what textures you felt like you were missing as you made the map. I noticed a few original DOOM textures in the play through video!

I really should try making some DOOM levels, I’m just not sure where to start tbh.

I’d love to hear your feedback on what textures you felt like you were missing as you made the map. I noticed a few original DOOM textures in the play through video!

The 64 heights and the lack of textures that tile well vertically was the main constraint (but kinda fun to work with). It works okay for hallways, but for rooms I wish I had taller textures to work with to avoid repetition. The pack provides plenty of support and light textures, but they all have a hard seam when repeated vertically. Except for the rivet bar which I feel I had to overuse a bit. Having textures with metals panel covering the full height would have helped there.

I used original graphics for switches as the textures pack lack(ed) any (except for the one on the door, which is too small as a standalone switch). I also extended the pack with a blue light and door, a door without a switch/control pad and a screen usable as a switch.

Globally the pack was great. Using it for the hallways was a pleasure, I started with that and I got a pretty good result in my first couple hours of mapping.

I really should try making some DOOM levels, I’m just not sure where to start tbh.

This is my first Doom level (except maybe for an unreleased two rooms level in the 90’s), so I had to learn from scratch. I only had a good understanding of how the original Doom engine worked, which I guess helped a bit. I watched a couple tutorial video on Youtube (eg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EucWtn__O8Q and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4-5d10dCyQ, etc.). And a incredibly amount of time lurking on mapping channels on Doom Discord servers (mostly #map-making on The Entryway server and the Hellforge Studio server). The ZDoom wiki is also a must. Ultimate Doom Builder and SLADE are the tool of the trade. If you are not on Windows, they work fine with Wine or a virtual machine.

To be able to use your textures pack, you will want to target GZDoom (so your aren’t limited to the original 256 colors palette). So you might as well go with the pk3 format to bundle resources and the UDMF map format which allow for a lot more features (like floor/ceiling textures rotation and offset).

Thank you for this texture pack, it's great! Here's what I've been doing with it.

(+1)

Hey, these look really great! I love the modifications and additions you’ve made to the doors too! Thanks for taking the time to share them! :-)

(3 edits)

Hi! Your work is excellent! May I ask what tool you used for making the 3D models? The one from the screenshot at the beginning of this page, for instance. Thanks! :D

(+1)

Hey a bit of a request for this texture pack. Would it be possible to sort each texture by type into their own folders? It feels unorganized right now.

Loving the textures however. :)

(+1)

Hi im pretty sure i take pack 9 for free, sure.   May i be wrong? and if i take pack 9 before free may i use it in commercial progect? Sure i buy new pack but before i need find a way to paid for it

(+1)

Hey, thanks for getting touch. Yes of course, it doesn’t matter when you downloaded the pack and whether it was free or not, you can use them for commercial projects. ☺️

(+1)

thanks man you a great! i find way to buy latest pack

quick question if i have free game and your textures are in texture folder unprotected that dose not count as redistribution ?

(+2)

Yes, that’s absolutely fine. If there is a way of protecting them then that would preferable, but I understand that’s not always possible, depending on the engineer you’re using.

If it’s not possible to protect them, it would be nice if you could put a readme.txt file in the textures folder which says where you got them from and a link to them. Thank you.

(1 edit)

thank you for the reply, sure thing and nice work :)

Hello, Great pack! I'm using it for an upcoming game. Are you still making updates on this game? Because the last one was a year ago.

Hey, sorry for not replying to you sooner! I’m actually working on a huge update. Check out the latest devlog post for more info! :-)

(+2)

Hey there, just wanted to say awesome work! I'm currently learning to 3D model and used your textures as inspiration to make something.

Love your work!

-Timbo

(+4)

Oh wow, this is incredible! Such a clever use of the textures. I love how you’ve used the windows and I especially like how you’ve used the version of the wall texture with the faded yellow stripe on the front of the boat, so it looks like the paint has worn away. :-D

(+1)

Thanks! The little pipes sticking out of the front of the cabin are also edits for the mass of pipes texture, and the front window is an edit of the square window. It was really fun working within the textures to stop me going insane and trying to make something far too complex! Keep up the amazing work! :D

Also oh damn you made Beeps Escape?! Me and a friend raced each other to beat that having never played it before, was awesome fun! :D Good job!

Hey, I absolutely love how these look! one question I have is that can these be used in unity and if you can is there a tutorial?

(2 edits) (+1)

Great work, thanks for the textures, I used them in my 2d game Prospyre.
And credited your work there.

(+1)

Hey, thank you very much for crediting me for the textures. I like now you’ve used them. The crate texture works really well as a floor texture too! :-D

Hi, thanks for the cool textures, I used them in my 7DRL Cosmic Corsair. I wanted 32x32 size, but thankfully many of the textures were very amenable to simple cropping, and surprisingly I managed to succesfully practise some pixel placing skills to "remaster" a few more tiles in my preferred size. :)

Very nice indeed! It’s great to hear that they helped to inspire you to practice and improve your pixel art skills by adapting the textures to suit your needs! :-D

I can use and I can sell my game on EpicStore or itch.io any site use your asset? Of course I give you credit. I promise you

(+1)

Hi, sorry for the late reply to this, but yes you are welcome to sell a game you make using these textures. Thank you for crediting me, and good luck with your game. Please send me a link to it once it’s released. :-)

Thank you so much! I wish you GOOD LUCK!

You awesome person

I promise you I give you credit and supported you

it won't let me download it

Just wanted to thank you, and let you know I used these textures in my prototype https://playingwcolor.itch.io/vr-kanji-cards

(+1)

I've been using these images just to mess around with the textures in another raycaster game on here, DUGA. I think this pack would really benefit from some really rusty and decrepit walls. Great pack!

- Finfee

(+1)

Thank you, just what I needed for a small personal project :)

I used your textures in my game x06 for the 2022 revival jam, and they’re absolutely amazing! The only thing missing for me was a wood texture, maybe some day?

(4 edits) (+1)

I'm absolutely in love with these Textures! especially the sci-fi interiors!

Using them in my game with Land-Sharks. https://www.indiedb.com/games/interstellar-forever/images

(+2)

(+6)

I used your textures for a game prototype, available here: https://deepnight.itch.io/dungeon-crawler

Thanks a LOT for sharing these high quality images <3

(+2)

Oh hey, thank you, I’m so glad you like them. I took a look at your dungeon crawler prototype and it looks really great. It’s exactly the sort of game I had in mind when I first started drawing the textures, with constant height rooms, that’s why all the textures are the same height.

Oh damn, I just noticed that you bought the pack for a very generous price. Thank you so much!

It’s quite normal, given how useful your pack was! Thanks for your great work :)

(+3)

It reminds me of the old Half Life. I spent my whole childhood playing this thing and now when I see these kind of texture packs I get nostalgic! Make more packs like this please!

(+1)

I’m glad it gave you a good nostalgia hit! I definitely be adding more textures in future. ☺️

(+2)

Hi, I like the look of this pack a lot, but I'm a bit confused about the license terms. On this page, it's stated to be public domain with a CC0 dedication. However, the license text included is not the CC0 license text, and the readme implies a different license with other restrictions. Which license is this actually under?

(+2)

Oh, hey, thanks for pointing this mistake out, I’ll get it corrected ASAP. The intention is that you’re free to use the textures to create anything you like, no need for crediting me. You just can’t redistribute then as an asset pack, either as the originals or modified.

Hi! I've read the comment below so - I won't ask for a 128x128 version - even if I'd love it :P (I lied, down below I do that)
I'm here just to say that I'd gladly pay for an expanded pay-only version of the pack!
I'd use it in a retro PSX shooter, so 64x64... is a bit tiny sometimes, and upscaling with some noise is not ideal. Keep up the great job!

(+1)

Hi, sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I somehow missed your comment!

So I have actually been considering doing both 32x32 and 128x128 versions, because I think it’d be a good learning exercise to try and create textures that look visually consistent across all three resolutions. But in reality I have so much on my plate that it’s probably never going to happen unfortunately! 😟

Awww, I understand that. I was hoping to use the  (appropriately  priced - free isn't sustainable!) higher res pack to build one of my first retro-looking games, but the pack as it is now will cause the textures to stretch  a  bit  too much. There's no AI which could upscale your work in pixel art!

You're surely more informed than me but - retro shooters are quite the trend so a texture pack could be a nice investment.
(actually, there  are too many of them - the problem is that they're a bit bland - the textures aren't the problem! :P )

Is there a 32x32 version of this texture pack

No, just 64x64 for now.

(+1)

Amazing work! :3

Thank you so much! 😊

(+1)

These are really awesome. Not much of an art person so they help me to learn a good bit. I added them into a VR project Im working on for Oculus Quest 2. If you up for some side work, Id be interested in paying for some textures for my ship.

(+3)

I used this pack for the demo level of TrenchBroom extension for Defold. Thank you so much!

You can play the level with your textures online here.

(+1)

Nice, this looks really great! This is the kind of thing I’d like to make myself with the textures, once I’ve finished my current projects, so I’ll definitely check out Defold when I do. :-D

(+3)

Thanks again for these, been putting together little scenes as backgrounds for my Twitch streams:

(+3)

Oh wow, this is something else. I never imagined the textures being used this way, but what you’ve made is really creative, and definitely unique! :-D

yeah, got a few ideas to make more elaborate parallax scenes in the future using a combination of your textures and my own work.

Having these resources has been a huge time saver, thank you again for doing these.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with the textures.

I haven’t done any other textures, but I’m planning on adding lots more to this pack, across lots of different themes. For example, I’m currently working on some toxic waste/laboratory textures. And after that I might do some more natural textures such as rocks, stone, grass, wood, etc, but all in the same style so that they can be used together nicely. :-)

Retro Texture Pack in Doom

(+1)

Nice! I like the lighting, and of course the DOOM double-barreled shotgun is a nice touch! What engine are you using?

(1 edit)

GZDoom, this is an actual Doom level (but not vanilla, I’m using texture rotation on the ceiling and the textures have their own palette).

Started a devlog in case it become something more than WE doodling in SLADE… https://pbuyle.itch.io/unamed-doom-project/devlog

Nice, I’m following you now so I can keep an eye on progress on this! :-)

(1 edit) (+2)

i just gave you 20 bucks.

i would love to see this asset pack expanded. i realize you have a main project you are working on.

as far as suggestions for future textures, i think computer terminals (and other techbase style stuff), some outdoor textures, and some color variations for the wall and floor textures would be welcome additions.

Hey, thank you so much! :-D

I have around a dozen new textures that are partly drawn. I’m hoping to finish those up and add them to the pack very soon. What sort of outdoors textures are you interested in?

(+1)

probably the basic stuff would be most useful. you have a doom techbase style going on here, so i'd say just rocky cliff and ground for outdoor areas between bases would be nice. it all kinda depends on what direction you are going in with this pack? continue the techbase theme? expand to other themes/levels, like urban, hell, scifi spacestation, outdoors areas like desert, mountain, forest

also thanks for cc0. it is the most useful license.

(+1)

Hey, so I added a whole bunch of extra textures over the past couple of weeks, including tech doors, computer terminals, more crates and colour variations, and some natural stone tile textures. I’m planning on working on more outdoor/natural textures next.

(1 edit) (+1)

you are awesome. keep up the good work.

i'll probably donate again at some point just to support your efforts.

this is some very useful stuff for us retro fpsers!

some ideas for future stuff:

thematic levels, like you have doomish techbase now, you are gonna have outdoor textures, how about some doomish gothic hell type level textures, a toxic waste type facility level textures, stuff like that. you could reuse alot of the stuff you already have for wall textures, just recolor them and modify details.

(+2)

This is amazing, thank you so much for making these!
Don't have the money to donate yet, but added them to my collection.
Thank you!

That’s cool, there’s really no need to feel bad at all. I like to draw textures as a way to help me practice pixel art techniques, and I thought it’d be nice to share the outcome with others! 😊

(+1)

Very useful, thanks! :D

(+1)

You’re welcome, I’m glad you like them! :-)

(1 edit) (+2)

This is a great pack.
Are you planning on expanding this pack? Maybe adding a bigger, paid version?

Really love your pixel style.

(+2)

Hi, I’m glad you like them! I do indeed to add more textures once I’ve released Little Martian, which is my main project, though I’m not sure I’ll ever do a premium pack though, because I don’t have the time to support it right now.

Thanks. I’m really glad you like them!

(+3)

These are really nice!  I plan to use them for a 2.5d game.

(+2)

Thank you! Be sure to share screenshots of your game, it’d be great to see the textures used in a real game! Best of luck.

Yw, I'll be sure to post whenever I have something that looks at least halfway finished.
